Lago de Chapala

Under the sunshine of Jalisco, and a short drive from Guadalajara is Lago de Chapala (Lake Chapala), Mexico’s largest freshwater lake. The lake is a good place to get away from the city and relax in a laid back and slightly rural Mexican setting. It is this relaxed atmosphere which has prompted growing number of people from neighbouring America to buy second homes and retirement homes in the area surrounding Lake Chapala. Increasing commercialization and growing water needs of Guadalajara have had a negative effect on the lake ecology. However, it is still a place that you should visit if you are in Guadalajara.
