A fourteenth century buddhist temple, Tenryuji temple is located in the northwestern Kyoto district of Arashiyama. The temple has a main hall, some side halls (all wooden structures) and a garden. The garden, which is perhaps the most popular tourist attraction in this temple complex, includes a beautiful pond called Sogen pond. The Sogen pond is home to live fishes which can be seen through its clear waters. The entire temple is surrounded by the Arashiyama mountains. Accessibility and pricing details about this venue are provided towards the end (bottom) of this post.
